Lumini Behaviour Support provides Positive Behaviour Support services for NDIS participants with behaviours of concern, complex support needs, restrictive practices, or situations where families and support teams need clearer strategies.
The focus is always practical. We help identify what may be driving the behaviour, what needs to change, and how the participant can be supported in a way that improves safety, dignity and quality of life.
Behaviour often has a reason behind it. It may be connected to distress, communication difficulties, trauma, unmet needs, sensory factors, environmental triggers, or support that is no longer working for the participant.
Lumini Behaviour Support takes the time to understand the full picture before recommending strategies. This means looking at the participant, their environment, their routines, their risks and the people around them, so support is based on evidence rather than assumptions.
Our Positive Behaviour Support services are designed to help participants, families, carers and support workers respond to behaviour with more clarity and consistency.
From assessments and behaviour support plans to training, risk management and skill building, each service is shaped around the participant’s needs and the environments they move through every day.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach that focuses on understanding why behaviours of concern are happening and what can be done to support positive change.
At its core, PBS recognises that all behaviour is a form of communication. When a person engages in behaviours of concern, they are often trying to express something — such as an unmet need, difficulty communicating, feeling overwhelmed, or not having the right support in place.
Rather than simply reacting to behaviour, PBS looks at the whole person — their environment, communication, needs, and experiences — to understand what is being communicated and how best to respond.
PBS supports individuals, families, and care teams to:
At Lumini, PBS goes beyond developing a written plan. We work alongside you to ensure strategies are practical, understood, and actively used in everyday life — not left sitting in a drawer.
Positive Behaviour Support works best when everyone is involved.
We work alongside participants, families, and support teams to build a shared understanding of behaviour and what helps. By providing practical guidance, training, and ongoing support, we help ensure strategies are consistent, meaningful, and used in everyday situations.
Our focus is not just on creating plans, but on supporting the people around each individual to feel confident in using them — building safer routines, stronger relationships, and more connected daily lives.
Hands-on training that builds confidence and consistency, helping teams implement strategies effectively and reduce escalation and restrictive responses.
Proactive planning that focuses on early intervention, safe responses, and reducing the need for restrictive practices over time.
We identify what is driving behaviour so supports can be targeted, effective, and focused on long-term change — not just short-term management.
Clear, practical plans designed for real-world use — supporting consistent implementation across home, school, and care environments while reducing reliance on restrictive strategies.
Responsive, short-term plans focused on immediate safety while actively working to reduce and replace restrictive practices.
We develop Interim Behaviour Support Plans when there is an immediate need for guidance, such as an identified risk, a restrictive practice, or a situation where the participant and their support network need timely strategies in place.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, interim plans are only written when they are clinically required. This means the plan has a clear purpose and gives families, carers, providers and support workers practical direction while further assessment or planning is completed.
The goal is to support safety, reduce risk, and make sure the participant is supported in a consistent and respectful way.
Our team develop Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans to give participants, families and support teams a clear, practical approach to understanding and responding to behaviours of concern.
This plan looks at the bigger picture, including what may be contributing to the behaviour, what support is currently in place, what risks need to be managed, and what strategies may help improve quality of life.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, the focus is not just on meeting reporting requirements. The plan needs to make sense to the people using it and support meaningful change in the participant’s daily life.
We use Functional Behaviour Assessments to understand why behaviours of concern may be happening, not just what they look like on the surface.
This helps us identify patterns, triggers, unmet needs, communication barriers, environmental factors and support needs that may be contributing to the behaviour. From there, we can recommend strategies that are based on evidence, not assumptions.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, this assessment helps create a clearer picture of what is happening for the participant and what may need to change around them.
Our training and education service helps families, carers and support workers understand behaviour support strategies and use them with greater confidence.
A behaviour support plan is only useful when the people around the participant understand what the strategies mean, why they matter, and how to apply them in everyday situations.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, training is practical, clear and focused on real-life support. The aim is to help everyone respond more consistently, reduce confusion and create a safer, more predictable environment for the participant.
We provide crisis prevention and risk management support to help reduce escalation, improve safety and create clearer responses when behaviour becomes more difficult to manage.
The focus is on understanding what can lead to crisis situations before they happen. This may include early warning signs, environmental triggers, unmet needs, communication barriers, stressors, restrictive practices, or gaps in current support.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, we help families, carers, providers and support workers respond in a way that is calm, consistent and focused on the participant’s safety, dignity and quality of life.
Our team supports skill building to help participants develop practical skills that can improve daily life, communication, independence and quality of life.
Behaviours of concern can sometimes happen when a participant does not yet have another way to express what they need, manage a situation, make a choice, or cope with change. Skill building focuses on strengthening those areas in a way that feels realistic, respectful and suited to the participant.
At Lumini Behaviour Support, we look at what skills may reduce risk, increase confidence and give the participant more meaningful ways to be understood and supported.
Lumini Behaviour Support is not driven by KPIs or the number of reports completed. This means support can stay focused on what is clinically needed, what is useful for the participant, and what will make the biggest difference in everyday life.
Plans, assessments and recommendations all have a purpose, but they are only one part of good behaviour support. The real value comes from understanding behaviour properly, helping people apply strategies with confidence, and supporting change that feels practical, respectful and meaningful.
You can call for a free, no obligation chat to see if we are the right fit and how we can best support the participant. Alternatively, submit an online intake form-this will be reviewed on the same business day.
We will meet with the participant, family members and key supports to understand any current risks, concerns and the participants’ goals. We will also assess any current restricted practices
We conduct a thorough assessment including a functional behaviour assessment to understand ‘why’ the behaviour is occurring and provide you with strategies and deescalation techniques
If required, we will develop an Interim Behaviour Support Plan and begin supporting the family or support team to effectively implement strategies. We will prepare a Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan. We want to ensure that supports are confident in implementing each strategy.
We continuously review the Behaviour Support Plan to ensure strategies are effective and adjust them as needed.
